RGB Free PC Build Guide - 2018

Introduction

As the RGB craze continues within the computer hardware industry, we’ve seen everything from CPU coolers to fans adopt this LED treatment. There are bound to be system builders out there who lean away from this type of lighting but sadly, a lot of the components on the market leave you with no option but to embrace the trend.

In this guide, we’re on a quest to provide a full system specification for anyone who prefers to side-step the current RGB mania. At Vortez, we’re fully engaged with RGB lighting and we actually quite like it, but we also appreciate that it may not be everyone’s ‘cup of tea’. So, if you would rather opt for a subdued, discreet configuration – then you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we’ll be going over everything you’ll need to achieve a clean and minimal look. However, there is a disclaimer we need to address before going over the components selection.

In 2018, it’s somewhat of a challenge to find components which avoid RGB implementation. So, some of the products we choose will still offer RGB functionality but there is inevitably an option to disable lighting altogether.

The price range for the system will be in the region of £1400 / $1500, but in some cases, we will be offering cheaper alternatives. Some of the cheaper alternatives will obviously have an impact on performance and some will not. We will indicate this when it is relevant, and of course, this guide is not set in stone and you are free to modify it in any way you see fit.
