Phanteks Return With The New Eclipse P400A

The Phanteks Eclipse PC case range returns this week with a new mainstream chassis that prioritises air-flow and ease of use without heavily undermining tight system build budgets. Seeking to capture the interest of price-conscious hobbiests and gamers alike, the Eclipse P400A incorporates a fine mesh front panel into an mid-tower design with wide open interior that acts as a blank canvas for RGB lighting and other personal customisations. Starting at just $69.99/£64.99 (latter inclusive of V.A.T.), the P400A undercuts a wide selection of popular full-feature cases in an already very crowded market.

Phanteks' Eclipse P400A is outwardly a relatively compact ATX design, but a clutter-free interior means it's able to support motherboards up to EATX form factors if rubber-grommeted holes cable management holes are not used. Also tidying the interior is the PSU shroud, serving as both cover for the PSU and a zone for hiding away excess cabling. Both features are uncommon on a mainstream case of any description.

Emphasising the P400A's high air flow credentials is space for three 120mm fans or optionally two 140mm fans in the front of the chassis. Alternatively this space can be used to mount radiators up to 360mm for high performance water-cooling. Up to two 140mm fans can be installed in the roof, but compact dimensions mean that this location isn't suitable for radiators. Both ceiling and front air intakes are dust filtered, keeping the case interior clean.

A non-standard approach to internal layout means that many components are kept hidden from prying eyes - particularly storage, which is mounted from behind the motherboard with as many as six 2.5" and two 3.5" drives supported in discrete mounting locations. More complex configurations can be arraigned through the use of additional mounting hardware such as a vertical graphics card bracket (not included), depending on preferences.

The base Eclipse P400A model is shipped with two black 120mm fans and integrates a fan controller into the front I/O panel. A more premium version of the P400A, available with white or black exterior - is shipped with three 120mm Digital-RGB fans and a Digital-RGB controller in place of the standard fan controller.
